I smelled it today...
that elusive but
unmistakable scent of
Autumn…
that tinge of something
in the damp coolness,
heralding a gentle change,
hinting at winter’s
Advent.
The trees smelled it, too,
subtly beginning
to alter their garb and toss
the old to the wind,
Again.
And again I breathe.
Memories fall like
faded leaves on my mind’s path.
Autumn.

The New Adventures of Abigail: Episode 1
...in which she eats puffs, claps for herself, shows off her infamous "mean face," and waves goodbye.

Abigail's New Friend
Abigail has a new friend. He is very special. Not only did he travel all the way from Belarus (in a package from Abigail's grandparents), but he was actually one of her daddy's childhood friends, too! :o)

Velvet Shoes
Velvet Shoes
by Elinor Wylie
Let us walk in the white snow
In a soundless space;
With footsteps quiet and slow,
At a tranquil pace,
Under veils of white lace.
I shall go shod in silk,
And you in wool,
White as white cow's milk,
More beautiful
Than the breast of a gull.
We shall walk through the still town
In a windless peace;
We shall step upon white down,
Upon silver fleece,
Upon softer than these.
We shall walk in velvet shoes:
Wherever we go
Silence will fall like dews
On white silence below.
We shall walk in the snow.

Life Is a Highway
My route to work this morning:
74.4 miles. 2 hours, 10 minutes. Too bad Taras wasn't with me on the second leg of the trip...that HOV lane on I-24 was very tempting. I did find it interesting that about 90% of the drivers who zipped past me in that lane carried invisible passengers. (Maybe some of them were hybrids, but I didn't see any of these stickers.) Oh, well. At least I got to have a nice, uninterrupted conversation with my hubby before I dropped him off. And hear some good music on the radio. And guess the right answer to the "Commuter Quiz" on 103.3. Too bad I didn't call and win the tickets. Maybe I'll try again Thursday.
